Demand for diamonds is what makes it precious. The fact that diamonds are rare definitely makes it very in demand especially for couples who are to be engaged or to be wed.
The term “diamond” is derived from a Greek word ἀδάμας (adámas), which means “unbreakable”. From the name itself, the diamond is known as the hardest natural mineral known. Only a diamond could scratch a diamond. That is probably the reason why diamonds are ideal for engagements and weddings. Its toughness and hardness adds to this. For women, a diamond is to die for. The fact is many people have literally died because of it.
Diamonds are recorded as one of the most alluring gemstones on this earth. They have been esteemed throughout the centuries for their extraordinary beauty and rarity. Their most notable feature is their outstanding physical strength. Its hardness is the main factor in it’s suitability as a gem.
Due to its quality of being resistant to scratching it is highly eligible for use in engagement and wedding rings which are usually worn daily. India was once the leading contributor of diamonds but recent times have seen a depletion of diamond mines. South Africa is the major contributor of diamonds which are used in jewelry. Other diamond mining countries include South America, Canada, Russia and Australia.
Extraction and mining of this precious element is not very easy. Processing and cutting them, I should say, is expensive as well. There are a lot of articles and researches that has been written about it and it seems to be a very complicated process. Indeed, it’s what makes the diamond precious.
The word “precious” is simply defined as something that means more to someone than anybody could understand. Its value and worth can't be defined and you'd do anything to keep it, beautiful and delicate. With this definition, a diamond is really considered as a precious stone. A diamond is eternal, therefore, valuable. That is why it holds an esteemed place in jewelries and most often being given as an engagement ring or a wedding ring. It’s not just the cost of the diamond or the jewelry but it is the value of its thought that counts.
They say diamonds last forever. And for two couples who are deeply in love, definitely, a diamond would symbolize of their love that lasts forever.
